Description
John T. Johnson (1788-1856) enjoyed success early in life as a lawyer and Congressman. Yet he eventually turned his attention to spiritual matters. Though he was raised in the Baptist church, he left this and became associated with the Restoration Movement, even working to bring together the “Disciples” (influenced by Alexander Campbell) and the “Christians” (influenced by Barton W. Stone). For a time, Johnson worked with Stone as co-editor of the Christian Messenger. He also engaged in other writing and editorial pursuits and labored to preach the gospel in various places.
In The Joyful Proclaimer, Kyle D. Frank puts together years of research to tell the story of a man who played a pivotal role in the early days of the Restoration Movement. The second part of this book contains a collection of writings by Johnson so that readers today can learn from one who devoted his life to proclaiming the unsearchable riches of Christ.
