Description
Joseph Thomas, born on March 17, 1791, in Orange County, North Carolina, faced a challenging early life, becoming orphaned at seven and suffering from a prolonged illness. At sixteen, he experienced a religious awakening. Yet he struggled to find a denomination that matched his beliefs until he discovered a group known simply as Christians who professed to take the Scriptures for their rule of faith and practice. He was baptized at seventeen and soon began his itinerant work of preaching the gospel. He became known as “The White Pilgrim” on account of the white garments he wore as he traveled to preach. His life was cut short by smallpox on April 9, 1835, at the age of forty-four. His life is an example of unwavering commitment to the truth and a willingness to sacrifice for the cause of Christ.
This volume contains Thomas’ autobiography, written in 1817. It details his early life, conversion, preaching, travels, and home life, offering a glimpse into the life of one of the early figures of the Restoration Movement. It also contains a collection of over forty poems he wrote on various topics.
