Description
For years, brethren have held different views regarding the use of institutions to carry out the work of the church. Gene Frost (1927-2024) wrote extensively on this topic, encouraging brethren to be content with God’s perfect arrangement in the church rather than establishing their own imperfect organizations to usurp the mission of the church.
Brotherhood Societies contains a collection of articles dealing with this issue. The articles in the first part were initially published under the title Individually Supported Missionary Societies and also referred to as Privately Supported Missionary Societies. The second part includes articles concerning the same issue that were published at a later date. This expanded edition includes a Debate on Religious Collectivities conducted in Gene Frost’s magazine, the Gospel Anchor, between Ron Howes and Glenn R. Burt.
Regardless of the position one holds on this topic, this volume is a valuable resource to help understand the historical significance of this issue and to challenge one’s thinking on the role of the church and how we can carry out the work God has given the church to do.
