Description
Daniel Austen Sommer (1878-1952) was the son of Daniel Sommer, who exerted a strong influence among brethren during the late nineteenth century and for much of the first half of the twentieth century. The elder Sommer’s influence was felt through his work as a preacher, writer, and editor of the Apostolic Review (formerly the Octographic Review). D. A. Sommer worked with his father for a time before breaking off to start his own rival paper, the Macedonian Call.
The Church of Christ is a collection of articles first published in the Octographic Review and compiled into a single volume to make a more permanent resource for brethren. It discusses the establishment, name, government, work, and worship of the church. It also addresses the members of the church, how they are converted, and how they conduct their lives outside of the assemblies of the church. The author warns of threats to the church, including the clergy, seminaries, “Babylon,” and more.
This book provides a helpful overview of the Lord’s church and challenges all of us to be faithful members of it.
