Description
Near the beginning of the book of Revelation, the Lord addressed seven churches in Asia, encouraging them to remain faithful as they endured suffering and persecution. Each letter to the seven churches contained the Lord’s personal message to them, as He was acutely aware of their current condition and the challenges they faced. However, while these letters were personal, they were not private. Each letter was shared with the other churches and with us as well. As we experience different challenges and deal with various problems in our congregations today, we can find encouragement and warnings we can apply to our current local context as we study the seven churches.
Each chapter focuses on one of the seven churches addressed in Revelation 2-3, providing a background of the city, a breakdown of the letter, and the Lord’s main lesson to them. At the end of the book, there is also a series of sermon outlines of this material that summarizes the main points and presents them in a more condensed way. As we study what the Lord said to each of these churches, we will find important lessons for us – as individuals and as local churches – that help us learn how to please the Lord.
