Description

This book traces the life of Jesse L. Sewell (1818-1890) from his childhood and early adulthood to his efforts to preach the gospel. He endured hardship and was willing to make many sacrifices in order to proclaim the unsearchable riches of Christ. He sincerely wanted to follow what was right, even when that meant facing fierce opposition and charges of heresy from his Baptist brethren when he began preaching. Before long, he was proclaiming the “restoration plea” among brethren of like mind. Though he did most of his preaching in his home state of Tennessee, he also traveled to other parts of the country for his evangelistic work.

In addition to a sketch of Sewell’s life, this book contains sixteen of his best sermons, in which he discusses the Bible, the church, Christ, the conditions of forgiveness, and more. These timeless lessons will benefit Bible students today just as they did when they were first preached in the nineteenth century.
