Description

Barton Warren Stone (1772-1844) was one of the leading voices of the Restoration Movement of the nineteenth century (which became known as the Stone-Campbell Movement). When he was ordained to preach, he declared his commitment to simply follow the word of God. This eventually led him to break ties with the Presbyterian church and sign The Last Will and Testament of the Springfield Presbytery, a document that called for the union of all believers without the man-made religious bodies and creeds that had divided the religious world.

A Plea for Union of All Christians is a collection of articles written by Stone and published in the Christian Messenger, a journal he started in 1826. Stone wrote on various topics, but the theme he kept emphasizing was the unity of Christians on the Bible alone. This volume has been compiled for the purpose of making the writings of one of the leading men of the Restoration Movement accessible to a new generation of Bible students.
