Description

James P. Miller (1915-1978) was born and raised in Western Kentucky. Before long, he earned a reputation as a capable young preacher. Throughout his life, he labored in various places, preaching the gospel, holding debates, and teaching on the radio. When Searching the Scriptures started in 1960, he worked as co-editor with H. E. Phillips.

Pap: The Broken Mold is a biography of James P. Miller written by his son, Rodney M. Miller. The author traces his father’s life (PAP) from childhood to college to his years of preaching the gospel. Though written light-heartedly and bringing out the humorous side of his life, this account also deals with serious matters such as Miller’s debates and his involvement in the institutional controversy among churches of Christ. Through his diligent labors in the Lord’s cause, he became a “legend in his own time.” When they made “PAP,” they broke the mold!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story about James P. Miller. I came to know him when i was student at Florida College. He preached for a local church, and his wife was one of my teachers. He was a good and unusual preacher. In fact, he started preaching as soon as he stood up from his seat and made his way to the pulpit. I believe all who read his story will enjoy it. — David Tant
